The
organizing committee is very pleased to welcome you to the ¡uInternational Symposium on Design and Environmental Control of Tropical
and Subtropical Greenhouses¡v. The
scientific, professional and recreational program planned for the duration of
the symposium should please every delegates and guests. We have more than 60
papers from over 16 countries at present. Professional tour is planned to visit
commercial greenhouses and plant factories for floriculture crops and gold
mushroom production and a park trial organized by 4 local companies during the
tour. We will also have the opportunity to tour the National Museum of Natural
Science and the botanical garden for tropical plants. Participants should enjoy
staying at the central part of Taiwan and we are looking forward to your visit
sincerely.

2.1 Day and
Location
The
symposium will be held at the convention center of the National Museum of
Natural Science, Taichung, Taiwan on April 15 to 18, 2001. The museum,
founded in 1986, is now one of the major
landmarks of the central part of Taiwan. The Taichung city locates 1.5
to 2 hours away from the C.K.S. International Airport
by car. Transportation will be guided for the international guests at the
Airport.

2.3
Language and Publications
The official language of the symposium is English. The contents presented by the Invited Speakers will be published in a proceeding edited by the symposium committee. The proceeding is tentatively scheduled for publication 3 months after the symposium. The participants of the symposium will be able to purchase the proceeding at a discount price. Contributed papers (oral and poster presentations) will be published in Acta Horticulturae, the formal proceedings of ISHS (International Society for Horticultural Science), and a copy of the Acta Horticulturae will be sent to all of the registrants of the symposium by the end of the year.
2.4 Utility
Voltage for most outlets is 110 V at 60 Hz (Outlets with two parallel slots).

Invited
Lectures: Most of the invited lectures, with a
superscript '*' following the abstract number on the Table of session 2.4, will
be limited to a total of 20 minutes. With a superscript '**' following the abstract number on the same
Table are 4 exceptions. A total of 30 minute is allocated for these 4
presentations. Presenters are advised to leave 4 to 5 minutes to allow time for
questions and discussion. Slide projector, transparency projector and digital
data projector (beamer) will be provided.
Oral
Presentations: Contributed
papers (oral presentations) will be limited to a total of 15 minutes. Presenters are advised to plan
their presentation for a maximum of 12 minutes to allow time for questions and
discussion. Slide projector, transparency projector and digital data projector
(beamer) will be provided.
Posters should not exceed 87.5 cm x 148 cm. Display boards and fixing materials will be provided. A discussion period, from 11:10 to 12:00 on April 17, is assigned
for poster session. Each presenter of a poster presentation will be requested
to stand in front of his or her poster and explain the presentation at the
assigned poster session.
Full papers of accepted abstracts must be received by the Symposium program committee no later than March 15,2001. Please send your camera-ready full paper (2 copies) and diskette to the following address:

The contributed papers will be reviewed by the program committee and the presenters will be notified (accepted, acceptable with revision, or rejected) at the registration desk on April 15(or 16), 2001. Early full paper submissions are encouraged.
A person who receives the notification of 'acceptable with revision' is requested to submit the revised paper after the symposium in one month (May 15, 2001). Accepted full papers will be included in Acta Horticulturae (the proceedings of the symposium), which will be published within three months after the symposium and send to the registrants (except accompanying persons) by the end of the year.

participants and their accompanying persons are invited to attend the Welcome
Reception on the evening of April 16 (Mon). Time: 18:30-20:30.

held on April 17 (Tue). This banquet is open to the symposium participants and
other persons such as accompanying persons who have registered and paid for the
banquet. Time: 18:30-21:00.

6.2
Method of Payment, Confirmation and Receipts
Please fill out
Forms A and B and mail or fax to the Secretary of the Organizing Committee.
Upon receiving your registration application forms (Forms A
and B) and remittance, the Symposium Secretariat will send you a registration
confirmation slip. Please do not forget to bring the confirmation slip to the
registration desk at the symposium.
6.3
Cancellation and Refund
In case of cancellation, written notification should be
sent directly to the Symposium Secretariat. The amount of the refund will be
determined by the date request is received. Refunds will be remitted as
follows:

7.1 Hotel
'Formosa Studios' is the symposium hotel and is located in 5
to 10 minutes walking distance from the symposium site. Please note that
'Formosa Taichung' is next to the symposium hotel and might be confusion for
the first time visitors.

7.3
Method of Payment, Confirmation and Receipts
Please fill out Form C and mail or fax to 'Formosa Studios'.
Upon receiving your HOTEL RESERVATION FORM (Form C) and remittance, the
'Formosa Studios' will send, fax or e-mail you a confirmation slip. Please do
not forget to bring the confirmation slip with you when you check-in at the
hotel.

Cancellation and Refund
In case of cancellation, written notification should be sent directly to
the 'Formosa Studios'. The cancellation fees will be charged as listed below.

Refunds will be made after deducting bank and/or credit card service

8.1
Passport and Visa
The
visa-free service for 14 days short visit to Taiwan is applicable to Australia,
Austria, Belgium, Canada, Costa Rica, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan,
Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United
States, Sweden, Spain, and Portugal. For nationals of other countries, visitor
visas for Taiwan can be obtained from the Republic of China's diplomatic and
consular offices abroad, or the overseas representative offices.
8.2
Weather
The temperature is between
25 and 30 degree C in April. Please check the Symposium's Web Sites for the
"7 days' forecast" for more detail.

For the International guests, please take airport bus to Taichung city. There are 3 bus companies provide transportation from CKS airport to Taichung and vice versa. The travelling time is about 2 hours. The fare, interval and more information please refer to following table:

there are 2 terminals for the international guests. Terminal 2 hosts the

Others will arrive at Terminal 1.

For arrival
please refer to the dotted box of following map. The arrival Immigration Lobby
(No.1) is the place you first arrived. After passing the VISA inspection
counter (No.1), go down to the 1st floor for baggage claim (No.2).
After you passing through the Custom Inspection Counter and a gate, you are in
the Arrival Greeting Lobby (No.3) and the bus station is at your left (No.4).

the gate, you might want to go to the bank first for currency exchange and then pass the main gate and go
